Parkinsons Disease - Treatment and Physiotherapy
Parkinsons disease can take many forms and strike at any time. The most common problem is a lack of flexibility, a "shuffly" gait and difficulty moving around in bed. These problems are caused predominantly by stiffness, rigidity, lack of ability to use rotation and extension in your movement rendering you unable to walk any great distance, liable to fall and having difficulty performing everyday tasks.
At Sky Blue Therapy we will facilitate an individual physiotherapy programme based on your particular movement needs, and teach both you and any carers that wish to be present. Other strategies for coping with the difficulties that come with your Parkinson’s disease such as having difficulty going through doors can be discussed, tried and taught. Some patients find this easy to do at home, other patients prefer regular hands on physiotherapy sessions every week, month or fortnight. Either way you will be monitored and any problems addressed as they come up.
We run a Parkinsons exercise group in Darlington on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month so if you are interested in coming along please contact us.
