Stroke Recovery | Stroke Physiotherapy | Stroke Treatment |
It was indeed a very good day for me when someone at the hospital suggested that Kirstie Petley of Sky Blue Therapy might be able to help me with some extra physiotherapy for my stroke recovery. It was difficult to find anyone who had neurological knowledge and physiotherapy skills as well.
I had a bad stroke some months previously and I gathered now that there was no more NHS physiotherapy available for me. I had had my allotted amount!
A few phone calls to Sky Blue Therapy sorted plans out and Kirstie agreed to fit me into her already busy work schedule and she has made regular visits to me at home for stroke physiotherapy ever since. Kirstie has been a tower of strength and encouragement ever since then and what progress I have made is due to her cheerful help.
I have been pleased to see that Kirstie keeps abreast of research in new methods of stroke treatment some of which I have been fortunate enough to try and I hope to be able to continue for the foreseeable future for as long as necessary. Progress is slow with a stroke and it is important to keep feeling as positive as possible.
Mr Prim Wickham-Jones
Following a stroke or CVA most patients receive physiotherapy or stroke treatment within a hospital or dedicated stroke ward. They may continue to receive physiotherapy or stroke treatment at home or in a day hospital. Inevitably this stroke treatment will end but this isn’t necessarily the end of the stroke recovery or the potential for recovery following your stroke.
Ongoing stroke treatment is essential to try and realise the maximum potential for stroke recovery. Many patients continue to recover for years after a stroke making improvements in walking, arm function, balance, and independence. It is important to remember that strokes (CVAs) are potentially a deteriorating condition, so appropriate Neurological physiotherapy can not only help you recover some paralysis, but also help to maintain ability and agility and so cope with everyday activities.
Sky Blue Therapy in County Durham will fully assess your stroke, your personal clinical needs and your stroke care. With your help they will formulate an appropriate, goal oriented stroke treatment programme and your progress will be regularly monitored through discussion and observation, so your strokew treatment programme can be changed or adapted as needed.
